Hello again, dear ones. Welcome back (or for the first time, for those who have recently joined) to the monthly Resourcing the Revolution newsletter.
What do we do when the world is burning? As we enter a new month and year, this question has been weighing heavy on my mind.
The recent fires in California have been a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile life can be - along with the delicacy of human and natural systems that comprise our lives.
In times like these, it can be too easy to get caught in the relentless tide of bad news and overwhelmed by grief, fear, or rage.
But in the midst of it all, I'm reminded of an essential truth: the only thing we truly control is ourselves. Our thoughts, our energy, our choices, and our actions.
We sure as hell don't need to throw ourselves into the fire in a misguided attempt to quench the blaze, despite it often feeling like society wants us to do just that.
(I can hear the oligarchs shouting, "More peasants for cannon fodder!" as we willingly jump into the fray…)
Instead, this month I want to explore a concept that I hope can help us find steadiness in turbulent times: resonance.
Much like a singer's voice can shatter glass or wind can cause a bridge to vibrate to the point of collapse, our inner state — our frequency — can influence the world around us.
The question then becomes, what kind of resonance are we cultivating?
When we operate from a place of presence, love, and intention, we create ripples of positive energy. But when we allow ourselves to dwell in despair or anger, we risk amplifying the very chaos we want to escape.
All of this is not to dismiss the darkness — it holds lessons we must face — but to remind us that we have a choice in how we respond to everything life sends our way.
I'm reminded of Fred Rogers and his mother's instruction to "look for the helpers" during times of crisis. I believe we each have the capacity within us to be those helpers. And to resource ourselves through practices like mindfulness, movement, and connection, so we can act with clarity and compassion.
When we each individually raise our vibration, our collective resonance has the power to bring light to even the darkest corners and moments of human history.
So, how will you resonate this month? Let's explore together.
Quote of the Month: The Resonant Frequency of Life
Before you dismiss the idea of human frequency and resonance as a bunch of woo, let's look at what science understands about biological frequency.
“Alpha waves in the human brain are between 6 and 8 hertz. The wave frequency of the human cavity resonates between 6 and 8 hertz.
All biological systems operate in the same frequency range. The human brain's alpha waves function in this range and the electrical resonance of the earth is between 6 and 8 hertz.
Thus, our entire biological system - the brain and the earth itself - work on the same frequencies.”
— Nikola Tesla
How cool is that? Humans resonate on the same frequencies as the Earth itself. We are made of stardust, after all.
I don't know about you, but I'm continually astounded at how magical and awe-inspiring life can be.
It may feel like the world is constantly burning, but I believe there's something we can do, some balance to be recovered or restored, before it's too late.
Idea of the Month: Resonance as a Ripple Effect
Indulge me for a moment, if you would, and imagine yourself as a human tuning fork.
The Centre of Integrated Health writes, "Human beings behave as finely crafted tuning forks, a delicate instrument vibrating in response to the symphony of energies around it. This metaphor, rich with imagery, captures the profound influence our environment has on our physical, emotional, and mental well-being."
I'd argue the reverse, as well. We not only resonate with the energies around us; we also have the capacity to change our resonant frequency.
And if you hold that power, it means that the energy you carry — whether calm or chaotic, joyful or jaded, relaxed or rage-filled — also has the possibility of radiating outward, influencing the people, environments, and systems around you.
This month, I invite you to experiment with intentionally "tuning" yourself.
It doesn't have to be some grand gesture or impact. You can start small. What small thing can you do today to bring peace or joy to someone else? Is there a random act of kindness you might offer to a friend, a neighbor, or even a stranger?
While you're at it, check your inputs. Are your daily habits fueling connection and clarity, or amplifying negativity? What are you putting into your body through your senses on a daily basis?
(Hint: if screens drag your energy down, a tech detox can work wonders! See the "Post of the Month" section for more details.)
And don't forget to be still. There's a reason the second edition of this newsletter spoke to the revolutionary power of rest. Give yourself the gift of silence, ideally every day, to recalibrate and reset your internal frequency before stepping back into the incessant noise of the world.
Photo of the Month: The Resonance of Mother Earth
While you're at it, make sure you spend some time out in nature. It's been wicked cold here in the Appalachians this January, but there's nothing like the sound of snow under your boots and the almost-glacier blue tint that comes with temperatures in the teens.
Each evening, I bundle up and take the dogs for a walk after they eat dinner. As we walk through the sunset silence, each footfall reminds me of the grounding power of the Earth's resonance — steady and calming.
It's a reset for my mind, a wake-up for my body, and a chance to breathe deep and move my body at the end of the day.
Even if you live in an urban area, see if you can find a way to connect to the resonance of nature. Be it a pocket park, a houseplant, or just turning your face to the sun on a clear day, there's power in reconnecting with the Mother of all mothers.
Short Practice of the Month: Master Your Breath, Master Your Resonance
During your moments of stillness, a relatively easy way to keep the brain quiet is to connect with the body via the breath.
Today's short practice is a simple breathing practice called Sama Vritti (balanced breathing) that absolutely anyone can do. Bonus: it should help calm your nervous system and focus your mind.
How to do it:
Set a timer for 5 minutes (or more).
Yes, right now. At least a few rounds. Or at least right after you finish reading. Yes, I'll wait.
Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Bring your awareness to your breath — don't change anything yet, and take a few rounds of breath to observe the natural pattern of your inhalations and exhalations.
When you're ready to start, inhale to the count of 4, and then exhale to the count of 4. Each inhalation and exhalation should be the same length.
Take a few rounds of this even breathing (or more) until you feel your body begin to relax and your mind settles. If your mind wanders off or you start to get wrapped up in an emotion or inner narrative, notice what's happening and bring yourself back to the breath.
You can increase the length of the inhalations and exhalations as you become more comfortable with the practice. You can also practice lying down if it's more restful.
Post of the Month: Reset Your Resonance
Between the blue light coming off our screens and the potentially enraging (or depressing or exciting or distracting or…) content we're consuming through them, humans set ourselves up for all sorts of disconnected and dissonant energy.
And while you might feel like taking a vacation and throwing your phone in the ocean while you're there is the only way to escape from the dopamine-fueled doom-scroll cycle, there is another way.
This month's throwback post talks about taking a digital detox to help your system rest and your resonant frequency settle back into something more supportive.
From the post:
You’ve likely heard about detoxing your body — juice cleanses, detox programs, and the like.
You personally may not use them or believe that they work, but the general concept is to aid the body in processing excess crap in your body by eating cleanly for a particular period of time.
Well, did you know that taking a break from technology can help your brain to get rid of some of the clutter that gunks up your neural pathways?
By giving yourself a break from screens, you give your mind a chance to settle and process, and to clean up anything it doesn’t need.
Ready to take a break from your devices for a bit? Me, too. (But maybe wait until after you're done reading this month's edition, yeah?)
Resource of the Month: Consciousness and Resonance
A new section again this month? Why, yes!
During one of our sessions when I was in Mexico last fall, we talked through a chart (developed by David R. Hawkins) that examines the specific resonance of each of 17 different energetic levels and the emotions attached to them.
As I was finalizing this newsletter, the chart came up again this morning in a call; I knew I had to add it at the last minute. I hear you, universe.
When it feels like the rest of the world is rolling around in the survival paradigm, and the media firehose is spouting a constant stream of all of those lower-level energies, that's when and where it takes courage and strength to rise up and vibrate with forgiveness, love, acceptance, reason, joy, and reverence.
I won't dive much deeper into it since I want to get this edition out the door and into your paws, but you can learn more about the Map of Consciousness if you feel so called.
Song of the Month: Resonance Can Change the World
Earlier this month, I was listening to a playlist from my time in Mexico, and the lyrics practically yelled at me that this song was our featured music for the month.
I am the world And as I change my soul, my words I change the fabric of reality and time
I am the earth And as I recognize my worth I heal my body, and my heart, I heal the land
And I am a soul And as I recognize I'm whole just as I am, without a doubt, and what's within is what's without I change our lives
I am relief I am total inner peace I am a cog in the machine, but the machine was always me
I am awake And I am no longer afraid To see the things inside of me that make me sleep
No more what do I do about it And what do I think about it Or what can I take from this, now
The world could use real help I need to love myself I need to figure out how to live in my purpose And giving in service Of this that I know in my soul
"I am a cog in the machine, but the machine was always me." Oof. Let's make this machine one of our own design moving forward, eh?
Mindset of the Month: Change Your Response, Change Your Resonance
In times of crisis, our hardwired biological default response is to react (oh, shit!). But when we respond without intention, we risk adding to the metaphorical fire.
This month's mindset shift is about ways to move from reaction to intention.
One of my (many) favorite ways of thinking about the benefits of a mindfulness practice comes from and through my teacher, Britt. She teaches that you'll know your practice is working when you have:
Less frequency of reaction,
Less intensity of reaction, and
A quicker recovery time.
Ultimately, there ends up being much less time between "WHAT?!?!"... and "So what?"... and "So what now?"
But how can you overcome the built-in lizard brain when faced with challenging news or situations?
Pause and breathe. This allows you to ground yourself (activating the parasympathetic nervous system) before acting. Remember when your parents used to tell you to take a deep breath and count to ten when you were angry? Yeah. That.
Ask yourself: What is mine to do? Not every battle is yours to fight, and your particular strengths won't be the best match for every situation. Focus on where you can make a real impact.
And finally, act with care. Whether it's showing up for a loved one, donating resources, or simply holding space for someone's grief, let your actions stem from a place of centeredness, not frenzy.
There's a saying, "Your presence is your present." Let your positive resonance set the tone that allows someone (or everyone) else to rise up into their best vibration.
These intentional practices help us stay anchored, even as the world around us feels unsteady.
As we wrap up this month's edition, I'll leave you with this reflection exercise:
Carve out some time today (or this weekend) to journal about your current level of resonance. Are you "vibing" in a way that leaves you feeling good? Can you meet the current moment from a place of peace AND power? Are there other ways you want to align your energy with your values?
Rise up. Resonate. And transform.
Finally, as we step into the coming months — and the rest of this year (or four years) — remember that resonance is a practice. It's not about perfection but intention.
Every day. Every moment. Every breath.
What you cultivate within will ripple outward. What if THIS is how our revolution begins… not with chaos, but with the steady, intentional resonance of individuals aligned in purpose.
As a guide, channel, and truth-teller, I help women changemakers reclaim their identity, step into their power, and cultivate the space they need to thrive. I don't just teach "self-care" — I help women come home to themselves. Together, we embark on transformative journeys and build deep community. My work weaves together intuition, practical strategy, and a deep reverence for nature and the divine. This is more than personal growth; it's about awakening the collective, allowing the divine feminine to rise, and shaking up the status quo to build a more beautiful world. I believe that – together – we can be catalysts for impact and positive change.
